Overall the beginning of the year is not off to a bad start. Hitting 9 years at my job, kid sleeping better more nights than not, a relationship restarting, building up my mental muscle in full time work. I think sometimes it's important in times like this to give myself credit that I'm doing allot and most days I am in fact doing my best. I'm just one of those people that's constantly judging themselves and thinking how they can improve. A double sided inheritance from parents that always pushed me.

Saturday EJ was at drop-in daycare for a bit and I got a few things done around the house. Made a good dent in getting out freezer burnt foods, including several slices of cakes that my father insists on offloading on me ("You won't eat it all as fast me").  I swear that man thinks of my house as a sweets bank.

Got some things out of the way in the home office. Boxes loaded up for donation this week. Hopefully that donation will get done Monday or Tuesday.

Kept working on this test crochet, that ribbing is giving me such a time. I ripped it back, started, tried to modify it - it's just too loose for my calf, but the leg warmer part is fine. And I'm reasonably sure considering the fiber content, 80% wool 20 % nylon, it couldn't have stretched that much.

Between the test crochet and sleeve island on EJ's sweater, I was feeling a little stuck so I started a chunky hat with some wool ease thick and quick that I bought early in my yarn life career, I've since realized that I'm neither a big fan of chunky yarn or yarn with that much acrylic content. Albeit, wool ease with its 20% wool, 80% acrylic, is about my threshold. (Yes I realize the irony that I'm knitting a sweater with 100% acrylic right now, but it should serve its purpose as a jacket sub for EJ)

Speaking of which, maybe I'll get a few more rows on that hat and continue on the book I'm listening to. Recently discovered Tui Sutherland's Wings of Fire series, and I'm enthralled. I'm usually not a youth reader but this one has a perspective I haven't seen before. Maybe it's Anne McCaffery's centennial popping up, or having a son born in the year of the dragon, but it has reignited my interest in dragons in a way I honestly probably haven't had in decades.

Till next time,
