Let's start with the winter weather,
When it comes to snow, I'm a typical Southern kid - I find it thrilling and intriguing. A welcome surprise, I cannot help but want to at least toss a snowball and with this most recent snow, light and fluffy  tossing a handful in the air to watch it fall and flutter.
Yet even I must admit that I'm getting tired of this winter. It's not just the missing social time with friends, missing Church, or playground time with my son. It's the closed businesses or unknowns and missing work due to EJ's daycare being closed - usually the day after the weather event because delayed starts just aren't a thing anymore I suppose. I would've understood that, we still have ice early in the morning but most of our snow is already starting to melt and it'll be gone by noon except for maybe a few places in the shade.

Later in the day after another play in the snow, we went out for a drive and I could see that the roads weren't super clear. Considering Southerners don't do well with driving in any ice and snow it does make sense they closed. I still had to work and luckily, EJ's go-to sitter loves him and charges little, especially since daycare still wants all their money this week.

On to 2026 goals...

The weather unknowns have made it tough for me to get my donations you my local charity shop ( I try to avoid Goodwill mainly because they tend to overprice IMHO) I got one good haul out of here, my dad helped me with a small one. I've got another box and a bag packed away for whenever things calm down about.

I attempted some strength training but I didn't really do much. I did do some Just dance on the Switch and that was fun. I'd like to get back into Ring Fitness. It's just making the time during my work day because EJ isn't quite focused yet enough to really exercise with me. Although perhaps I should try.

I didn't get any repairs done around the house or with the jeep. It's almost time for regular maintenance for the Jeep and I'd like to get that done before I go up to the mountains at the end of the month.

On the "1 in, 1 out 1 out challenge",

In: 0g
Out: 369g in 3  finished projects as of February 3.

Yay! This makes me happy for a two reasons:

1. If I feel like gifting myself some yarn for my birthday, I've got wiggle room
2. I finished my son's sweater so I can start my sweater, which when finished will use up 450g of yarn.

January was quite a month, both feeling long and going by way too fast and now we're in the best month of all - February, Black History month, national engineering week, birthdays of my remaining immediate family... And my 40th birthday!

2026 Goals

In no particular order...
  1. "1 in. 1 out"  approach to yarn stash wrangling. I've already written a little bit about this. The stash is getting out of control but I know myself and the likelihood of me not buying any new yarn in a year is unlikely so I'm hoping this will be a balance approach. Additionally gives myself the challenge of finishing more 1-3 skein projects that I enjoy.
  2. Make blanket for Gigi. Related to #1, my first time knitting a request. The yarn (homespun) unfortunately is semi awful to me but I'll figure it out. Will probably need to do a few swatches to find a project I'll enjoy. I tried a Tunisian plaid like pattern and it didn't really work out.
  3. Get back into strength training - probably starting with bodyweight exercises. Over the past couple years I've lost a lot of weight but haven't had the bandwidth to start up strength training, it's mostly been light cardio that I can do with my son. I'm hoping I'll be able to start back ring fitness or other switch games but we'll have to see how that goes as we enter the terrible twos. Perhaps I'll reduce my doom scrolling and use those breaks during work for a short busy of exercise. Right now it's easier to knit when my son is playing independently but I also want to be a good example for him.
  4. Home decorating - Mainly getting my son's room to look like a kid's room and have an actual guest room. I have a few ideas but this is still a half baked idea that I still want to complete this year. I know I want to put a Murphy bed in the soon to be guest room and move my home office to our dining area. And get rid of the glass furniture my mom has. Perhaps it's not so half baked after all. ^_^
  5. Figure some career goals - I've had my job nearly 10 years and I'm in a middling phase. Unfortunately at my job, middling is not a viable option at some point I'm going to have to improve. I'd like to work on my Building Energy Modeling skills (BEM) but I'm not exactly sure how to do that with the limited time I have. Perhaps data science will be an easier lift by improving my tableau skills.
